linux.conf.au is one of the world's best conferences for free and open source software!

Now in its 11th year, linux.conf.au attracts some of the brightest minds from the southern and northern hemisphere – a major annual event in the conference calendar.

In January 2010, linux.conf.au will be visiting Wellington, New Zealand, home of the little blue penguin or Kororā as they are called in Māori, New Zealand's indigenous language. What better place to bring the world's biggest gathering of Linux enthusiasts?

Sunday January 18, 2010
Start: 2010 Jan 18 18:00

As the Monday night of Linux Australia conference (LCA 2010) was left free, and by popular demand, a Tweetup has been set up for the Monday. Geeks (and Tweeps) from far and wide are converging on Wellington so why not take advantage?

VENUE CHANGE: We're now going to meet at The Green Man Pub - http://www.thegreenmanpub.co.n... - as they have improved accessibility for some of our attendees.

Early start should suite Wellington workers, and folks can combine dinner/tweetup and get back home at a decent hour for family and early morning.

Lucene

School of Engineering and Computer Science Seminar

Abstract:
The Enterprise Search field has been long dominated by commercial proprietary applications.

However in the last 2-4 years, the Java open source information retrieval library Apache Lucene, and its ecosystem of applications, have begun to stake their claim. The most popular application, Apache Solr, a complete RESTful search service, has gained a large install base among companies like Disney, AOL and Netflix.

After the Xmas break, we're all set to go for another year of exciting Flash Platform stuff from Adobe. 2010 will be the year of the release of Flex 4, AIR 2.0 and CS5 and there are quite a few interesting things to look into.

We're going to start this process with two 30 min introductory sessions:

- Introduction in Stratus (Ross Phillips)

- The basics of skinning and styling in Flex 4 (Kai Koenig)
