Abstract:
The Enterprise Search field has been long dominated by commercial proprietary applications.
However in the last 2-4 years, the Java open source information retrieval library Apache Lucene, and its ecosystem of applications, have begun to stake their claim. The most popular application, Apache Solr, a complete RESTful search service, has gained a large install base among companies like Disney, AOL and Netflix.
This talk with introduce Lucene and Solr, as well as the rest of Lucene's ecosystem, and I will discuss how my academic experiences at Victoria prepared me to be one of the leading contributors to Solr and Lucene and one of the primary developers of the location based search extension to Lucene: Spatial Lucene.
